HISTORY

North East suffered four destructive fires, December 1858, May 1872, summer of 1874, and August 1884. It was after the last fire in 1884, which destroyed a major portion of the business section of Main St., that the township people began a plan for a water works system to pump water into the town. The outcome was a 4,000,000 gallon reservoir which was constructed on the hills Southeast of town. After the construction of the reservoir, the fire station was built in 1900, which is also as a town hall.
