HISTORY |
This house lies just outside the Fairview Borough boundary line. It was
built in 1856 and remodeled in the 1870s. The structure is constructed
of brick and id a good example of the evolution of Victorian
architectural styles. As originally erected it was two stories high bu
the later addition of the mansard roof permitted the inclusion of a
third floor. It is one of the very few buildings in the area
incorporating features of the Second empire school. Of particular note
are the steeply sloping sides of the mansard roof rising to a flat
deck. That deck is enclosed by a decorative wrought iron railing. The
same railing also appears below the dormers. The whole affect is to
draw one's attention upward to the houses complex massing and expansive
height. |
